Restrictions of Gender During Covid-19

Claudia Lopez, the mayor of Bogota, Colombia has ruled a very controversial measurement to control the spread of the virus in this city. This is a restriction by gender which dictates that men can go out on odd days, (1, 3, 5, etc) and women can leave their houses on even days (2, 4, 6, etc). Even though measurements taken by the Colombian government to control the virus have been good, this new law passed in the capital of the country has come with some controversy.

The main questioning it has received is what happens with transgender people? People are saying that this measure is discriminatory towards people that identify as transgender. Victoria Sandino, a senator of the Farc party manifested in Twitter that "The measure is arbitrary and violent with non- binary gender identities, we ask you to think and implement actions that contain the virus without running over diversity." Even worse, authorities have clarified that police officers don't have a protocol to deal with this situations. The mayor has answered saying that transgenders can go out depending on the gender that they identify with.

The measure will start today, April 9th, therefore the consequences, and wether or not it is a discriminatory measure will be seen in the days to come.
