Domestic Violence and Quarantine

Majority of countries around the world are currently under quarantine due to Covid-19. People are living something absolutely new to everyone, no one can leave the house, no one can go to work, school or any other activity they usually do. This has led families, and couples to spend more time than ever before together. Even though this can be good, it also has a lot of negative things.

Not only to mention mental health for people locked in apartments or small houses, but also the conflicts that can be generated due to prolonged interaction with the same people. Domestic violence and abuse is on the rise in many countries. Some countries like Colombia and Chile have opened special phone lines where women or men being attacked by the significant other can call.

In Chine, after the quarantine divorces increased by up to 50% according to that country. In a more severe case, a women was killed in Italy by her husband because he believed she had given him coronavirus. The media has been slow to cover these cases of domestic abuse, mainly due to the fact that they are focused mainly on informing about the virus itself.

These issues have exposed yet another side of this crisis that we are going through and has shown us that some relationships within families are not what they appear.
