Outrage in Argentina

Argentina, a nation in the south- eastern coast of South America already registers 63 femicides in 2020. This week, the murder of 19 year old Micaela Gordillo triggered a new wave of manifestations along the country. Micaela was murdered by her boyfriend Naim Vera who dismembered her body and then tried to burn the remains in a fire. It was not only the brutality of the murder that caused outrage in social media, but also the way in which the media presented the case to the public. Nineteen year old Vera already pleaded guilty and gave all the details of his horrific murder. However, while news channels were talking about the case, they showed the picture of the murderer and covered his face. Besides his picture was a picture of the victim, Micaela in her underwear and posing to the camera. With ongoing feminist movements all around the world, social media users have stormed the web with messages saying "The victim is even shown in underwear. However they cover the face of the murderer who has already pleaded guilty. This is patriarchy". Using the hashtag #justiceformicaela people have raised their voices and gone against this repulsive action of the media. This shows the lack of sensibility of news channels and how they are drawn to sensationalism by showing the women in her underwear, with a huge lack of modesty and respect for her. However the guilty man gets his face covered.
