Racism as a consequence of Covid- 19
Something that has truely surprised me these days with the Coronavirus is the amount of racism towards Asians that has happened worldwide. This is because a lot of people are blaming every Asian (regardless of their country of origin) for the start of this deadly virus.
People from many different countries around the world have ignorantly targeted this race blaming them of being "responsible" for the amount of people dying around the world. In London, a college student was attacked by a hoard of angry young men simply because he was Asian, not even from China.
No particular gender has been targeted these days, no particular portrayal of men or women has stood out, but rather the racism of ignorant people. Even though the virus did come out of Wuhan in China, this does not mean that any Asian can or should be attacked or blamed for this. It is a global problem that this virus has spread the way we are seeing today and everyone has to make an effort to stop the rapid expansion of it.
I hope that next week I can go back to posting about the main topic of my blog which is the way in which men and women are portrayed in the media. For now however, anything related to the coronavirus is considerably more important and relevant.
